Gombe Leading the Way in Sustainable Development – World Bank

By Halilu Mohammed Teli  The World Bank has commended Gombe State for providing a conducive environment for the successful conduct of a four-day training for enumerators involved in the third-party assessment of ACReSAL projects. Speaking at the closing ceremony held at Matrix International Academy in Gombe, the World Bank Team Lead, Mrs Joy Iganya Agene, represented by Mr Joseph Abang, said the state’s stability and organisation present a unique opportunity to showcase its development strides. “Gombe State has demonstrated a high level of organisation and stability, which is critical for programmes of this nature. This environment gives us confidence that the outcomes of this assessment will truly reflect the realities on ground,” she said. One of the organisers said “the activities for the Law Week will commence on May 15 with a visit to the correctional centre and a special Juma’at prayer, while a church service will hold on May 17.” She explained that the main programmes of the Law Week will take place from Monday 18 May to Thursday 21 May, featuring an opening ceremony, panel discussions involving lawyers, judges and lawmakers, as well as lectures by experts on key issues affecting the legal profession. Community Ownership Key to Project Success, Gombe ACReSAL Warns

By Halilu Mohammed Teli  The Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) in Gombe State has raised concerns over acts of vandalism at some of its intervention sites, warning that damage to project infrastructure could undermine efforts to tackle land degradation and climate-related challenges in the state. The State Project Coordinator, Dr. Sani Adamu Jauro, said reports indicated that protective fences installed around gully erosion control sites had been dismantled in some communities, threatening the sustainability of the facilities. “We have received reports that some individuals are removing the protective fences put in place to secure our gully erosion sites. This is unfortunate and unacceptable,” Jauro said. Accountability in Action: Gombe Allocates Two Billion for ACReSAL Dispute Resolution

The Gombe State Government has set aside over two billion Naira to address possible complaints arising from the implementation of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project. The State Project Coordinator, Dr. Sani Adamu Jauro, made this known while speaking to journalists on the sidelines of an ongoing stakeholders’ training on the Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM) in Bauchi. According to him, the approval was granted by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya to ensure that all genuine grievances from prospective beneficiaries are promptly and transparently addressed during the course of project execution. Providing further insight into the grievance management process, Dr. Sani Adamu Jauro pointed to the Doma Gully Erosion Control Project as a practical example of how the system works. The Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project has described the media as a critical partner in ensuring the success and sustainability of its interventions in Gombe State. Speaking on the second day of the five-day stakeholders’ training workshop on the Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM), the Gombe State Project Coordinator of ACReSAL, Dr Sani Adamu Jauro, emphasised the importance of journalists in promoting transparency and safeguarding public projects. “The media remain strategic partners in the success of ACReSAL projects. The gathering brought together traditional rulers, academics, community and religious leaders, legal experts, and journalists to deliberate on ways to strengthen accountability and justice in project implementation. Bichi First FC bolster squad with five new signings ahead of NNL second stanza

Bichi First FC have confirmed the signing of five players as they strengthen their squad for the second stanza of the Nigeria National League (NNL) season. The new arrivals are midfielder Umar Sani (Sekarege) from Kano Pillars, central defender David Havilla from Elkanemi Warriors, striker Wasiu Jimoh from Kwara United, goalkeeper Itodo Akor from Gombe United, and left-back Gods Power from Ahzuba FC.
