Velocity Humanitarian Foundation Steps In to Save 412 Indigent FUK Students

The Velocity Humanitarian Foundation has announced plans to pay outstanding registration and school fees for indigent students from Gombe State studying at the Federal University Kashere. The foundation, led by Engineer Aliyu Mohammed, said it is currently holding discussions with the university’s management to settle unpaid fees for affected students who are unable to complete their registration due to financial hardship. According to the foundation, the talks are being conducted in good faith and are aimed at ensuring that students’ academic progress is not disrupted. For the 2025/2026 academic session, the foundation said it received a list of 412 indigent students from Gombe State who could not finalise their registration at the institution. The students are spread across the state’s local government areas, with Akko recording the highest number at 87, followed by Billiri with 74 and Kaltungo with 55. Boost for Eye Care as NEDC Boss Visits Maiduguri Eye Hospital

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the North East Development Commission (NEDC), Mohammed Goni Alkali, has carried out an on-site inspection of the Maiduguri Eye Hospital in Borno State to evaluate the deployment of ophthalmic equipment supplied by the Commission and to monitor the ongoing specialised training programme at the facility. The visit formed part of the Commission’s efforts to assess the impact of its health-sector interventions aimed at strengthening specialist eye-care services and improving access to quality healthcare across the North-East region. During the visit, the MD/CEO was conducted round key clinical and training units of the hospital by the Lead Consultant and Chief Consultant in Ophthalmology, Prof. Abdull Mohammed Mahdi, who demonstrated the installed equipment and explained their clinical applications, offering first-hand insight into their role in diagnosis, treatment, and capacity building for eye-care professionals. Football Unites Gombe South as All Stars FC Win Unity Cup

All Stars FC of Kaltungo have emerged champions of the 9th edition of the Adamu Yola Gombe South Unity Cup, following a dramatic 3–2 penalty shootout victory over Oska FC after regulation time ended 1–1. The thrilling final, played at the Olusegun Obasanjo Stadium, saw Oska FC take the lead in the first half.  However, All Stars FC drew level from the penalty spot after Oska’s goalkeeper committed an infringement inside the box. Gombe Govt. Shows Compassion as Families of Dead Journalists Receive 14 million naira

By Halilu Mohammed Teli  The Gombe State Government has extended financial assistance of ₦14 million to the families of seven members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, who lost their lives in a fatal motor accident. Each family received ₦2 million as burial and welfare support, in a gesture aimed at easing their hardship during this difficult time. Presenting the support on behalf of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Abubakar Ibrahim Njodi, described the incident as shocking and heartbreaking. Professor Njodi said the Governor was deeply moved by the tragic loss, noting that many of the deceased journalists worked closely with government officials on a daily basis. He conveyed the Governor’s condolences to the NUJ National Body, Gombe State Council, and the management of the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, assuring them that the government stands with them in their moment of grief.
