Accountability in Action: Gombe Allocates Two Billion for ACReSAL Dispute Resolution

The Gombe State Government has set aside over two billion Naira to address possible complaints arising from the implementation of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project.

The State Project Coordinator, Dr. Sani Adamu Jauro, made this known while speaking to journalists on the sidelines of an ongoing stakeholders’ training on the Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM) in Bauchi.

According to him, the approval was granted by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya to ensure that all genuine grievances from prospective beneficiaries are promptly and transparently addressed during the course of project execution.

Providing further insight into the grievance management process, Dr. Sani Adamu Jauro pointed to the Doma Gully Erosion Control Project as a practical example of how the system works.

According to him, when construction activities began at the site, anxiety among nearby residents led to the submission of about 600 complaints.

The concerns ranged from fears of property damage to misunderstandings about compensation and environmental impact.

Dr. Jauro explained that each complaint was carefully documented and reviewed through established grievance redress procedures to ensure fairness and transparency. After detailed verification, only 17 cases were found to be valid.

“Those verified cases were treated with urgency and resolved without delay,” he said, stressing that the objective of the mechanism is not only to listen, but to provide timely and just solutions where necessary.

He described Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya as a responsive and people-centred leader who consistently prioritises initiatives that improve livelihoods and protect vulnerable communities.

He urged residents to continue supporting government interventions, noting that cooperation between communities and implementing agencies remains key to the overall success and sustainability of the ACReSAL project.
