DanMajeCup25: Larry Daniel Describes Sports as Tool for Youth Engagement and Economic Growth

The Gombe State Government has officially flagged off the second edition of the Danmajen Gombe Football Cup 2025 at the Conference Hall of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.

Declaring the tournament open, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Malam Inuwa Adamu Pantami, described the competition as one of the most remarkable youth-oriented events in the state’s calendar. He commended Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for laying a solid foundation for the success of grassroots sports in the state.

The Commissioner also appreciated the support of traditional rulers, sports officials, media professionals, and all stakeholders who have continued to champion youth development through sports.

Special recognition was given to Chief Daniel Olare Terry, who sponsored the Gombe Local Government matches, with hopes that more supporters of the Governor’s programs will sponsor matches across the remaining local government areas.

Malam Pantami further applauded the Gombe ALGON Chairman, Barrister Sani A.A. Haruna, and all local government chairmen for their contributions to the success of the competition since its inception.

A ceremonial opening match is scheduled for Friday, 1st August, at the Pantami Township Stadium by 4:00 PM, featuring Ward Jekadafari A against Ward Shamaki B. Gombe Local Government will take the lead in organizing the opening fixture.

Meanwhile, renowned philanthropist and sports enthusiast, Larry Daniel, has described sports as both a money-making venture and a tool for engaging the youth and reducing social restiveness.

Speaking during the tournament, Larry Daniel applauded Governor Inuwa Yahaya for creating an enabling environment for sports to flourish. He noted that his decision to sponsor this year’s tournament is part of efforts to promote unity and discover young talents in the state.

He pledged to make future editions even more attractive and impactful, while calling on other individuals and organizations to invest in grassroots sports as a means of building peace and empowering the youth.

Also speaking, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Malam Hashim Ibrahim, commended Larry Daniel for his sponsorship and called on other political office holders to emulate the gesture in the remaining 10 LGAs.

Malam Hashim emphasized the importance of sports in promoting youth engagement, community development, and curbing social vices. He assured that the committee is committed to organizing a smooth, fair, and inclusive tournament.

The 2025 Danmajen Gombe Football Cup will feature participation from all 11 local government areas and every ward across the state, making it one of the most inclusive grassroots competitions in recent years.
