Family Support Primary School Clinches Victory At Gombe Inter-Primary School Athletics Championship















Family Support Primary School has emerged as the overall winner of Gombe Inter-Primary School Athletics Championship, securing an impressive tally of 10 medals—5 gold and 5 silver. The four-day athletics events, held at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe, showcased the remarkable talents of young athletes from various primary schools in Gombe Local Government.

During the closing ceremony, the Chairman of the Gombe State Athletics 

Association, Alh. Ahmed Shuaibu Gara, congratulated the winning schools and presented them with gifts. Hassan Central Primary School secured the second position with a haul of 4 medals—3 gold and 1 bronze. Gabukka Primary School claimed the third spot with 7 medals—2 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze. Additionally, individual prizes were awarded to exceptional athletes who demonstrated outstanding performance throughout the championship.

Amidst the celebration of the athletes' achievements, Chairman Alh. Ahmed Shuaibu Gara unveiled a significant development for the Gombe Athletics Association. He announced the Association's plans to establish the Gombe Athletics Academy, aiming to provide specialized training and support to promising athletes in the region. The announcement generated excitement among the young athletes and their supporters.

"To all the children that participated in track events, especially those who finished first, second, and third in the 100m, 200m, 300m, and relays, totaling 28 athletes, we will establish what we call the Gombe Athletics Academy," declared Chairman Alh. Gara during his speech.

He further revealed that the association would collaborate with the Gombe Local Education Authority and Better Education Service Delivery For All to bring the academy to fruition. The establishment of an 11-member board, responsible for shaping the training program and overseeing the academy's operations, was also announced. The training sessions are expected to occur three times a week, ensuring a comprehensive approach to the development of young athletes.

Chairman Alh. Gara affectionately referred to the project involving the 28 selected athletes as the "Olympic Children Project." Each participant will be recognized as a "Child Olympian," highlighting their dedication and potential for success in their sporting pursuits.

In addition to the training and development opportunities, the Gombe Athletics Association intends to provide various scholarships to selected athletes. These scholarships will include three sets of school uniforms per year, two sets of school shoes, and 100 pieces of 60-leaf exercise books annually. Furthermore, each athlete will receive school bags, sports bags, sharpeners, and cleaners (100 pieces each) every year, along with other items designed to support their education and sports careers.

The establishment of the Gombe Athletics Academy represents a significant milestone in the state's commitment to fostering athletic excellence among the youths.
