The National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, has presided over the Gombe State NUJ Executive Council meeting, during which critical issues affecting the journalism profession were deliberated.
At the meeting, Comrade Yahaya disclosed ongoing efforts by the NUJ national leadership to enhance journalists’ welfare across the country.
He highlighted planned interventions such as the introduction of a health insurance scheme, weigh-in allowances, and other welfare-related initiatives.
He emphasized that unity, forgiveness, and professionalism remain vital to the growth and progress of journalism in Nigeria.
The NUJ President further urged members to uphold the ethics of the profession, prioritize safety in the course of their duties, actively promote NUJ programmes, and support initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of veteran journalists.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Gombe State NUJ Council, Malam Farouk Mu’azu Gombe, expressed gratitude to the National President for his consistent support to the state council.
He also commended the president for his guidance, noting that such an approach is essential for sustainable leadership.
Former Gombe State NUJ chairmen ,Abubakar Adamu, Alhaji Abubakar Abba, and Sa’idu Bappah Malala along with a former National President of NAWOJ, Asabe Baba Nahaya, and other union elders, praised the leadership qualities of Comrade Alhassan Yahaya.
They observed that within just one year in office, he has reunited former national leaders of the union and introduced several impactful initiatives.
The elders also lauded the performance of the current Gombe State NUJ leadership.
The National President later inaugurated the NUJ Gombe State Advisory Committee, made up of past leaders of the union, including Asabe Baba Nahaya, Abubakar Adamu, Abubakar Abba, Alhassan Yahaya, and Sa’idu Bappah Malala.
Speaking on behalf of the committee, Comrade Asabe Baba Nahaya thanked the NUJ for finding them worthy of the responsibility and assured that the committee would justify the confidence reposed in them.
