The Project Coordinator of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project in Gombe State, Dr. Sani Adamu Jauro, has commended Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in the state for their consistent support towards the administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.
Dr. Jauro gave the commendation when four NGOs paid him a courtesy visit at the ACReSAL office in Gombe. The organizations included Kishimi Shelter and Care Foundation, the Cattle Dealers Association, Wuro Baduku Community Development Association, and Voice of Women in Nigeria.
He described the visit as timely and strategic, noting that collaboration between government and civil society organizations remains critical to achieving sustainable environmental and socio-economic development in the state.
According to him, the NGOs have distinguished themselves by aligning their activities with government policies, particularly in areas relating to climate resilience, environmental sustainability, community development, and social inclusion.
Dr. Jauro assured the visiting groups that ACReSAL remains committed to strengthening partnerships with relevant stakeholders to effectively implement projects aimed at combating land degradation, improving livelihoods, and enhancing resilience in semi-arid communities across Gombe State.
He emphasized that multi-stakeholder engagement is central to the success of the ACReSAL project, adding that government alone cannot achieve lasting environmental transformation without the active participation of community-based organizations and development partners.
Speaking on behalf of the visiting NGOs, representatives of the organizations pledged their continued support and collaboration with the ACReSAL project. They expressed readiness to mobilize their members and communities to participate in initiatives designed to promote environmental protection, sustainable agriculture, and climate adaptation.
The ACReSAL project, supported by the World Bank, is currently being implemented in several states across Northern Nigeria, with a focus on restoring degraded landscapes, improving food security, and strengthening institutional capacity to address climate challenges.
The renewed partnership between ACReSAL and civil society groups in Gombe is expected to further accelerate progress toward achieving the project’s objectives in the state.
