Health, Education Facilities Boosted as NEDC Completes Gombe Projects

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has commissioned its newly constructed state office in Gombe and completed the handover of several development projects executed across the state.

The new office, located along Bauchi Road, was commissioned by the Deputy Governor of Gombe State, Dr Manassah Daniel Jatau, on behalf of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.

Other projects undertaken by the Commission were commissioned and formally handed over to the Gombe State Government by the Minister of Regional Development, Alhaji Uba Ahamadu Maigari.

The projects include the Bogo Primary Health Care Centre, the Gombe Central Medical Store, four newly constructed lecture halls at Gombe State University, and the Faculty of Agriculture at the university’s Malam Sidi campus.

Also commissioned were the reconstructed Ahmadu Gombe Secondary School in Jekadafari and a renovated ten-unit senior staff quarters at Government Science Secondary School, Gombe.

Speaking during the handover, the Minister of Regional Development praised Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s development agenda, describing him as a major driver of Gombe State’s modernisation efforts. He said the projects were implemented under the NEDC’s mandate to bridge infrastructural gaps and fast-track development across the North-East region.

While commissioning the NEDC state office, Deputy Governor Manassah Jatau commended the Commission for promptly developing the land allocated to it by the state government. He expressed appreciation for NEDC’s continued support in strengthening infrastructure in critical sectors of the state.

Dr Jatau assured that the people of Gombe State would safeguard the NEDC office as a strategic development institution and directed the Ministry of Works and Housing to provide necessary support for its maintenance, including landscaping and tree planting to mitigate the effects of climate change.

In his remarks, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the NEDC, Mohammed Goni Alkali, said the Commission was established to deliver rehabilitation, reconstruction and sustainable development interventions across the North-East. He emphasised the importance of sustained collaboration with state governments to ensure effective project execution and monitoring.

With the projects now fully completed and handed over, officials say they are expected to enhance service delivery, stimulate socio-economic growth and improve the overall well-being of residents of Gombe State.
